How to use the Music Speed Changer Android track splitter. The track splitter can separate music into separate tracks of vocals and instruments or tracks of vocals, drums, bass, piano and other. The AI splitting requires a device with a minimum of 4 GB of RAM and 64-bit Android. There are two parts to the splitter, the engine that does the splitting and manages the split jobs and the editor component to work with the completed split tracks.

Getting Started with the Track Splitter

You want a good Wi-Fi connection for setting up the splitter, as a model download is required for initializing the audio splitter.

In the editor, tap the slider / gear icon at the top.

Select Track Splitter

To initiate the splitter tap Process track

Before using the track splitter, a one-time download of the newest splitter models needs to be fetched. The download is 179 Mb, so you will want to have a good Wi-Fi connection if possible.

Splitting music tracks is a resource intensive action. We recommend keeping the screen on so the device allocates proper resources to the app.

The app can tell you when your files finish processing. Tap allow to be notified when a split job finishes.

Select what you want your audio split into. You can isolate the vocals with the two track option or separate out the instruments for isolated playback with the 4 or 5 track options. The splitter can isolate vocals, drums, bass, piano and other.

After selecting the parts you want isolated, splitting begins.

The Track Splitter Processing Section

To see the progress of your splitting, to access the completed files, and to batch file split, go to the track splitter section of the app from the main menu of the app.

Open the app main menu

Select Track Splitter

On the Track Splitter overview screen you will see the tracks waiting to process as well as the track currently being processed.

To access your split tracks, tap on the three lines with the small arrow icon in the top right corner in the Track Splitter processing section.

Here are all your processed tracks that have completed. Tapping on a track starts it playing as a regular track.

Tap on the playing track to open it in the editor.

The first time you tap on the playing track to open it in the editor, the app will advise you to select Track Splitter as your editor layout choice. Tap Got it.

In Track Splitter as your editor layout choice, you can start working with the split track.

For example, you can use the track splitter to isolate vocals.

Firstly, I would like to thank you for implementing the Markers feature.
Can't express my happiness. Now it's easier to listen to a part of a song to play it by ear!

I don't know if others have asked for the next feature but is it possible to save the markers somehow?
One idea can be that they are exported as xml or any other file format specifically created by musicspeedchanger with the the original file's name in the same directory so even by copying files they follow along and can be used on other devices. Somehow like how srt (subtitle files) work in video players like VLC.

Formant correction can make the vocals in your music sound natural when the pitch is shifted and create interesting audio effects.

Formant Correction with Music Speed Changer

Music Speed Changer Pro comes with formant correction. If you don't have it yet, you can get it or try it for free for a week by signing up to our monthly plan. Here is more on that:

Accessing the Formant Controls in the Pitch Shift Component

Tapping the microphone button in the pitch shift component opens the formant controls

The pitch shift component opens with formant autocorrect turned on. You will hear the vocal correction. ie. vocals pitch shifted upwards will no longer sound like the Chipmunks

Turning off the formant autocorrect opens the full formant correction component. Here you can use the slider to control the formant independently from the pitch shifting

The autocorrect vocals puts the formant at inverse of the pitch. Sometimes manually adjusting the formant slightly away from the pitch inverse will sound slightly better. It depends on the song, so try it out!

Hear the formant on YouTube:

Cool, right? So what is actually going on when the formants are corrected? Let's find out.

Formant Correction Explained

Pitch shifting is a powerful tool in music production for adjusting the fundamental frequency of an audio signal up or down. However, a pitch shift alone can sometimes lead to unnatural-sounding results. This is where formant correction comes into play.

What are Formants?

Imagine your vocal tract as a tube. When you speak or sing, the shape of this tube influences the sound produced. Certain frequencies resonate more strongly, creating distinct peaks in the sound spectrum called formants. These formants are responsible for the unique characteristics of your voice, such as whether it sounds deep, bright, or nasal.

The Issue with Pitch Shifting

Simply shifting the pitch of an audio signal also proportionally shifts the formants. This creates a mismatch between the pitch and the perceived "timbre" (tonal quality) of the sound. For example, a high-pitched voice shifted down an octave might sound like a chipmunk – the pitch is lower, but the formants are still high.

Formant Correction to the Rescue

Formant correction tackles this issue by analyzing the original audio and identifying the formants. It then adjusts these formants independently of the pitch shift, maintaining a more natural-sounding relationship between the two. Here's how it works:

Analysis: The audio signal is analyzed to identify the location and strength of the formants.

Shifting: The pitch is shifted to the desired level.

Formant Adjustment: The formants are adjusted proportionally or independently of the pitch shift.

Synthesis: The modified pitch and formants are combined to create the final audio output.

Benefits of Formant Correction:

Natural-sounding pitch shifts: Vocals and instruments retain their original character even when their pitch is altered.

More creative freedom: Experiment with extreme pitch shifts without losing the essence of the sound source.

Realistic vocal effects: Create convincing robot voices, chipmunk effects, and other unique vocal manipulations.

Applications of Formant Correction:

Vocal correction: Enhance slightly off-key performances while maintaining natural vocals.

Harmony creation: Generate realistic vocal harmonies by pitch-shifting existing tracks with formant correction.

Instrument manipulation: Experiment with the tonal character of instruments by shifting their pitch and formants.

Sound design: Create otherworldly soundscapes by manipulating formants on various audio sources.

The best way to get a full understanding of formant correction is to just use it and then get creative with the formant component. Have fun and enjoy!

When you practice many times you want to create an A<->B loop. Then start slowly, and increase speed gradually.

My suggestion is to have an additional feature as follows:

0. Speed change mode on / off (if off - the app behaves as usual, if on at 'play' pressed, the Start speed is determined (see below) and speed changes according to the below parameters.

1. Indicator (text or slider) where you indicate at what speed percentage you want to stop your practice (you start where the speed slider is currently positioned).
2. Select of change method: either: 'loop count' or 'time based'
3. Number: 'loop count': After how many 'A' <-> 'B' loops speed change (increase if target speed is higher than current, and decrease if target speed is lower than current)
4. Number: 'time based': Every how many seconds speed change occurs
5. Change by how many percentages each time (1% - 100%)

Usage example (loop count):
You set a loop from 'A' at offset 0:10 to 'B' at offset 0:20
You select loop count
You select every 3 loops
You select change in 2%
Start speed is:50%
Target speed is: 80%
So the application plays the loops as follows:
1st loop: at 50%
2nd loop: at 50%
3rd loop: at 50%
4th loop: at 52%
5th loop: at 52%
6th loop: at 52%
7th loop: at 54% etc.
Until reaching 80%, continuing at 80% until the user stops the music

Another example (time based):
You set a loop from 'A' at offset 0:00 to 'B' at offset 0:42
You select 'time based'
You select every 12 seconds
You select change in 5%
Start speed is 80%
Target speed is 102%
So the application plays the music as follows:
0:00-0:12 - at 80%
0:12-0:24 - at 85%
0:24-0:36 - at 90%
0:36-0:42 continue 0:00-0:06 at 95% (end loop starting from 'A' - still counting time)
0:06-0:18 - at 100%
0:18 - continuing the loop until stopped at 102%

I will be happy to help in defining / testing the feature

There's already a feature that saves the pitch setting for each song individually - is it possible to export it in some kind of file to easily transfer it to anot
