How to use the Music Speed Changer Android track splitter. The track splitter can separate music into separate tracks of vocals and instruments or tracks of vocals, drums, bass, piano and other. The AI splitting requires a device with a minimum of 4 GB of RAM and 64-bit Android. There are two parts to the splitter, the engine that does the splitting and manages the split jobs and the editor component to work with the completed split tracks.

Getting Started with the Track Splitter

You want a good Wi-Fi connection for setting up the splitter, as a model download is required for initializing the audio splitter.

In the editor, tap the slider / gear icon at the top.

Select Track Splitter

Formant correction can make the vocals in your music sound natural when the pitch is shifted and create interesting audio effects.

Formant Correction with Music Speed Changer

Music Speed Changer Pro comes with formant correction. If you don't have it yet, you can get it or try it for free for a week by signing up to our monthly plan. Here is more on that:

Accessing the Formant Controls in the Pitch Shift Component

Tapping the microphone button in the pitch shift component opens the formant controls

The pitch shift component opens with formant autocorrect turned on. You will hear the vocal correction. ie. vocals pitch shifted upwards will no longer sound like the Chipmunks

Turning off the formant autocorrect opens the full formant correction component. Here you can use the slider to control the formant independently from the pitch shifting

The autocorrect vocals puts the formant at inverse of the pitch. Sometimes manually adjusting the formant slightly away from the pitch inverse will sound slightly better. It depends on the song, so try it out!

Hear the formant on YouTube:

Cool, right? So what is actually going on when the formants are corrected? Let's find out.

Formant Correction Explained

Pitch shifting is a powerful tool in music production for adjusting the fundamental frequency of an audio signal up or down. However, a pitch shift alone can sometimes lead to unnatural-sounding results. This is where formant correction comes into play.

What are Formants?

Imagine your vocal tract as a tube. When you speak or sing, the shape of this tube influences the sound produced. Certain frequencies resonate more strongly, creating distinct peaks in the sound spectrum called formants. These formants are responsible for the unique characteristics of your voice, such as whether it sounds deep, bright, or nasal.

The Issue with Pitch Shifting

Simply shifting the pitch of an audio signal also proportionally shifts the formants. This creates a mismatch between the pitch and the perceived "timbre" (tonal quality) of the sound. For example, a high-pitched voice shifted down an octave might sound like a chipmunk – the pitch is lower, but the formants are still high.

Formant Correction to the Rescue

Formant correction tackles this issue by analyzing the original audio and identifying the formants. It then adjusts these formants independently of the pitch shift, maintaining a more natural-sounding relationship between the two. Here's how it works:

Analysis: The audio signal is analyzed to identify the location and strength of the formants.

Shifting: The pitch is shifted to the desired level.

Formant Adjustment: The formants are adjusted proportionally or independently of the pitch shift.

Synthesis: The modified pitch and formants are combined to create the final audio output.

Benefits of Formant Correction:

Natural-sounding pitch shifts: Vocals and instruments retain their original character even when their pitch is altered.

More creative freedom: Experiment with extreme pitch shifts without losing the essence of the sound source.

Realistic vocal effects: Create convincing robot voices, chipmunk effects, and other unique vocal manipulations.

Applications of Formant Correction:

Vocal correction: Enhance slightly off-key performances while maintaining natural vocals.

Harmony creation: Generate realistic vocal harmonies by pitch-shifting existing tracks with formant correction.

Instrument manipulation: Experiment with the tonal character of instruments by shifting their pitch and formants.

Sound design: Create otherworldly soundscapes by manipulating formants on various audio sources.

The best way to get a full understanding of formant correction is to just use it and then get creative with the formant component. Have fun and enjoy!

Time Stretching to a Specific Duration

Quickly time stretch audio to a specific duration using this online tool

Time stretching is the process of lengthening or shortening audio by changing the speed of the audio, without affecting its pitch. It is audio stretching or compressing without the Darth Vader or Chipmunk effect. Time stretching is very useful for video production, for adjusting the duration of audio. It can help you condense or stretch a piece of music or narration to perfectly fit a given length of time for your YouTube, TikTok, or commercial video. With Music Speed Changer Tempo controls, you can produce a clean professionally time stretched track.

Understanding the Tempo Change / Duration Relationship

The relationship between the speed of the music and the length of the track is pretty straight forward. The slower the audio, the longer the track length. The faster the audio, the shorter the track. This is easy to understand because it's intuitive, when you talk very fast, you can say a lot more in less time vs. when you take your time to slowly draw out your words to say the same thing, it takes longer.

Mathematically, the tempo change / duration relationship is also simple. Divide the tempo you want by the tempo you are starting with to get the change ratio, ie. the tempo change. To make it a percentage, multiply by 100. The only messy part is the conversions from hours, minutes, seconds, milliseconds before and after. That is basic arithmetic, namely hours x 21600 + minutes x 360 + seconds x 60 + milliseconds, and the reverse division for converting back. You can use the calculator at the top of the page to quickly get the right tempo value you are looking for.

The complicated part of time stretching is the audio processing, which requires DSP algorithms to retain the pitch and avoid audible anomalies, such as artifacting. Music Speed Changer handles the time stretch processing for you.

Using the Editor to Time Stretch

The Tempo component of the editor does the audio stretch when you change the music speed. You can have some fun and fine tune the audio by changing the pitch, adding effects, or getting otherwise creative. The only variable that affects the audio length is the tempo.

Step by Step

Open the track in the editor. You can use the sliders to change the tempo or tap the tempo value to change it.

Tap the tempo value to input a new value

Enter a tempo value in the box

If you are time stretching for video production, you can use the calculator at the top of the page to input the original time and length of time you need the audio stretched to. The original length is the number at the bottom right of the editor above the player controls.

If you want to share the stretched audio track, for producing a video or sending out, the last step is to save the stretched audio to a file that you can send or import into your video editor. Tap the three dots at the top right of the editor and select "Save edited track..." to create a track for export. Here are step-by-step instructions for saving. You can then share the file from the library or My Creations.

Slowed Reverb is a popular remixing style where a track's tempo is slowed and reverb is added to create the effect of making the listener feel as if they were in the room and the message in the song is directed at them mainly in a somber tone.

Music Speed Changer can make a slowed + reverb mix out of any track. You can edit just one track and save it, or play your entire collection in slowed reverb mode.

Reverb is under the preset Effects or you can add Reverb to your Custom components.

Turn on tempo and reverb in custom settings to turn Music Speed Changer into your go-to Slowed + Reverb editor and player:

Here is how:

Adding Reverb to Custom Components

Open the editor layout menu

Go to Custom Components (If you don't want to configure custom you could just chose Effects here and skip to editing reverb)

Turn on Custom Components

Turn on Reverb by tapping its box

Editing Reverb

You can now control Reverb by tapping the down caret to open the reverb editor

You want to decrease the tempo and if you like, you can adjust the Wet, Stereo width, High frequency damping, Room size, Pre-delay, Low frequency cut, all settings that make up reverb.

You can also save your settings

Music Speed Changer is a popular tool in the dance studio. Dancers and Dance teachers use the app to slow down music to learn new steps. It makes it easier to learn complicated dance steps when you can watch a dance instructor perform difficult steps in slow motion on beat to the chosen music, and it is easier for the students to repeat the choreography following the dance teacher's demonstration. The key is to have the choreography music play at the same rate that the students are learning the steps to give a full understanding of synchronicity of the dance.

As a dance teacher, you will most probably want to set up your lesson plan by setting markers for each lesson segment. Markers are bookmarks that are set and remembered for each track to allow for easy jumping to marked points in audio files. Markers can index the loop A/B information. To learn more about setting markers on the points you want to have remembered, check out our Editor Components Video Guide - Markers (1:52)

To start your dance lesson, you want to start out playing the music at original speed, showing the students the full dance they are going to learn

The next step is to slow down each sequence and demonstrate steps in slow motion. You will want to set your A/B loop points on the first sequence you want to teach

Slow down the tempo using the slider or clicking the tempo. To learn more about controlling tempo in the app, check out this article.
You want to start slow enough so students can clearly follow each move in choreography to the music

As the students learn the steps, you can speed up the music until the dance class is up to speed on the choreography of the original sequence

Once your dance students understand the first segment at full speed, you move your A/B points to the next segment and start the process over. You can reset your A/B points by clicking the X. Again, using markers set up ahead of time will make this process smooth.

You can also click the edit button to fine tune adjust your loop points. In the loop point editor, you can skip ahead the length of a segment or manually change the A/B information by editing the minutes and seconds in the track

The dance instructor will repeat this process until the entire piece of music is choreographed at full speed and the students are able to perform at full speed

Music Speed Changer Android automatically imports and reads in all playlists it finds on your device. The app also has the capability to export playlists for use in other apps.

Exporting Playlists

Go to the playlist section of the app.

Tap on the playlist you want to export.

Tap the three dots at the top right to bring up the playlist options menu.

Select export.

Acknowledge the prompt that a m3u8 file will be created in /Music/MusicSpeedChanger/playlists/. Remember the file name and path if you plan on working with the file.

Importing Playlists

Music Speed Changer will automatically find and import any playlist it finds on the device. As always, if media isn't being found, restart the device to force a scan for new media.

Transferring Playlists

Moving exported playlists to different devices is not necessarily recommended, as it can be tricky to preserve the file paths that point to your tracks, but it can be successfully done. If you are switching phones of the same model, or upgrading or reverting to a similar model from the same manufacturer that persists file structure and storage naming convention across their devices, moving playlists will work, as long as you put your music in the same file location on the new device as it was on the old device. The default location for music on most devices is a folder called /Music/ in the root directory of the internal storage. If you keep all your music there, chances are high that your playlist transfer will go smoothly.

SD cards that name themselves creative unique names will not work for this process. (That is unless you have mad computer engineering skills and can hack the new card's name to match your old SD card's name).

Step by step playlist export and import:

Move all your media to your new phone making sure you move everything over into identically named directories.

Follow the export process detailed above.

Browse to the m3u8 file in /Music/MusicSpeedChanger/playlists on your old device using the device's file manager.

Share or email the m3u8 file to your new device.

Once on the new device, Music Speed Changer will find the playlist and read it in automatically.

Music Speed Changer can help you with music and sound for your TikTok and YouTube videos by helping you with your voice overs and by turning any track into an original masterpiece or an artful remix of the original.

It does pitch adjustments on your voice overs, and helps create audio for 440hz to 432hz, Nightcore, Slowed + Reverb, and Anime Music Videos.

Record and Edit Voice Over

You can use Music Speed Changer to record sounds or a voice over, which you can then alter with the pitch and tempo controls and effects. If you want to make your video sound as if it narrated by someone else, you can change the pitch of your voice. Raise the pitch to make it sound as if a child or a cartoon character is talking, or lower the pitch to make it sound as if a mature man is speaking.

TikTok is known for its short-form videos of dance and humor, while YouTube videos are generally longer and often more informative, but what they both have in common is that they feature video clips uploaded by their users, and that they make it possible for anyone to become a content creator and successful video star.

The experienced content creator knows that a good sound track will boost a video's popularity. Music adds and enhances emotion, and an emotionally compelling video draws the viewer in and makes them want to watch the video to the end and share it with the people they are connected to. That's why music is an important part in video creation.

Creating a Custom Audio for Your Video Soundtrack

Video creators are often very talented content creators but not necessarily musicians. This is where Music Speed Changer is your best friend. It let's you create a remix of your favorite track and add effects to any music creation. All you do is open the track you want to use in the editor, shift the pitch and/or alter the speed as much or as little as you like, add effects if you want and voila! You have created a custom soundtrack. Save it and use it as you like in your TikTok and YouTube videos.

Music Speed Changer has an 8-band graphic equalizer for amplifying and attenuating a track's audio. The center of the bands, from low to high, are 60, 150, 400, 1K, 2K, 4K, 8K, 16K Hertz. The bands' vertical sliders allow you to control the gain of each of these bands separately. This is useful for boosting the bass, filtering out high frequencies, or tuning in on one band. The equalizer can be added to custom editor layout or accessed directly as a component preset.

Getting Started with the Equalizer

The quickest way to use the equalizer is from the component presets, under the player main menu, Editor components:

Open the Editor

Open the Editor Layout Menu by tapping the slider/gear icon at the top of the editor. Here you can select one of the editor presets or you can customize the editor

Select Equalizer

Adding the Equalizer to your Editor Components

Alternatively to using the equalizer component preset, you can add it to your controls by using a custom setup:

Open the Editor

Open the Editor Layout Menu by tapping the slider/gear icon at the top of the editor. Here you can select one of the editor presets or you can customize the editor

Select Configure custom

Turn on Custom components

Check the Equalizer checkbox

Turn on the Equalizer

Using the Equalizer

The vertical sliders control each band's gain. From left to right, the frequencies are from low (bass) to high (treble).

Bass Boosting with the Equalizer

To bring out the bass in a track, you want to amplify the low frequencies. To turn up the low frequencies move up the left sliders.

Filtering out Low and High Frequencies

To get a low/high filter effect, you can attenuate (turn down) the low and high frequencies by moving down the outer most sliders. For maximum effect, amplify (boost) the mid range signal by moving up the middle sliders.

Dealing with Distortion aka Clipping

Clipping occurs when an audio signal is boosted above it's maximum level. This can be a common occurrence when boosting specific frequencies with the equalizer. To counteract clipping, lower the preamp gain to provide headroom for boosting frequencies with the equalizer. The compressor and/or limiter may also be helpful with the added benefit of less attenuation of the unboosted frequencies.

Lowering the preamp to counter act clipping when boosting the signal with the equalizer

Using the limiter to counter act clipping when boosting the signal with the equalizer

Classic Nightcore

A classic nightcore edit is a cover track that raises the pitch and increases the tempo of the original track by 10–30%. Music Speed Changer app is a tool to help you easily create your own nightcore music. In addition to using the app to create a new nightcore track to save and use elsewhere or share with someone, you can set Music Speed Changer to play your entire library as nightcore! Below is the best way to get started making your own night core with Music Speed Changer.

First you want to adjust the settings to put the app in nightcore mode. Open the layout menu in the editor

Click on Join pitch and tempo to check the option which will make the speeding up of music nightcore style easier.

Next, open the layout menu in the editor again, and click on Editor Components

Select Key and BPM

The next step is up to you and your music preference. You want to find the perfect rate for your nightcore, which is usually around 160 to 180 beats per minute (BPM), or the original music sped up to a speed of between 110-130% of the original track.
The mathematical DSP BPM detection sometimes comes out to half or double of what the human sense detects it at, so the app lets you adjust for that. (See here for more info on BPM editing)

When you move the rate slider, it adjusts the BPM. You can also click the value or enable +/- buttons to make adjusting the rate easier. (See this article for more detailed info on turning on +/- controls)

Ultimate Nightcore

With Music Speed Changer you can independently change the pitch and tempo so you can make the track as fast or slow as you want, and the pitch as high or low as you want. You can also add effects to get the perfect sound to suit your mood or needs.

Here is how: Customize Music Speed Changer editor by adding any or all of Music Speed Changer's audio effects and get creative:

That's it! You can now save your new nightcore track, or save a part of it as an A/B loop segment, or enjoy your entire playlist played sped up as nightcore.

Music Speed Changer has a setting in the editor that will join the Tempo and Pitch into a single parameter called Rate. Rate is a proportional frequency and tempo shift used for natural rate change in music.

See here for a step by step on joining pitch and tempo into rate in the app

Calculating a change in rate to increase or decrease frequency is fairly simple. You take your desired output frequency and divide by the starting frequency and multiply by 100 to turn the resulting rate into a percentage. You can simply use the calculator at the top of the page and tap copy to then easily paste your result into the app.

Music Speed Changer was originally incepted and created by an aspiring musician to help master difficult to learn parts of music by allowing you to practice at your own pace of learning. Whether you are just starting out learning a classical instrument or are a professional instrumentalist or a seasoned vocal artist, the app is a musician's toolbox that can help you perfect your musical instrument skills. It is especially useful for learning music by ear and mastering the accompaniment of other instruments.

Breaking Down a Piece of Music into Manageable Parts

The app lets you segment music into the parts you want to practice, and makes it possible to work on each part at your own comfortable pace. It is a useful tool for learning solos or hearing and understanding intricate riffs and fills.

Quick Start to Practicing

Open the track you want to master in the editor. Set A and B loop points at the start and end of the part of the track that you want to focus on learning and slow the tempo down to a comfortable pace. The app will loop the part until you pause it or release the A/B points with the X. You can slowly increase the tempo as you get more skilled and comfortable with the part you are working on.

See here for our Basic Use video on YouTube for more help on navigating the editor

Segmenting out a Track into Parts to Work On

For mastering a complex piece of music, it helps to segment out each part of a track into sections that you can skip to and revisit again later, such as Intro, Riff, Fill, etc. The app provides a bookmarking tool called Markers.

To turn on Markers, in the editor, enable Markers. (For a full Guide to Markers, see here)

Open the editor layout menu

Select Markers

Set markers at the start and end of all parts you want to repeatedly practice. You can set as many marker bookmarks in the track as you like

Opening the marker menu lets you name each bookmark

For more info on bookmarking and working with Markers, see here

Count In with Delayed Playback Start

When practicing along with an instrument, often times a musician will find a count in to a track useful. A count in or lead in gives you time to properly position yourself and grip your instrument before the accompanying music starts. It also helps you train to start playing music on cue. Music Speed Changer has a count in feature called Delayed Playback Start. You can turn it on and off in the editor settings.

Transposition is the process of moving a collection of notes (pitches or pitch classes) up or down in pitch by a constant interval. Music in a major key can be transposed to any other major key; music in a minor key can be transposed to any other minor key. Music Speed Changer makes transposing music easy. (For fractional frequency shifting with Music Speed Changer see pitch shift info here)

Transposition Setup

To make transposing music easier, snap the pitch to semitones and enable Key to see the piece's original key and the key you want to transpose (pitch shift) to. Below are the adjustments to make to the editor settings to optimize Music Speed Changer for transposing music.

Adjusting the Editor Settings

To see the keys, set up the editor window to show the Key section. There are two ways to do this, either use the preset Key and BPM or add Key to the custom setup.

Open the editor by tapping the up arrow or swiping up the mini player

Opening the Key & BPM Editor Component

Open the Editor Layout Menu by tapping the slider/gear icon at the top of the editor. Here you can select one of the editor presets or you can customize the editor

Snap the Pitch slider to Semitones

To make the key change in semitone increments, we need to snap the pitch to semitones.

In the Editor Layout Menu

Check Snap pitch slider

Today's music is mostly produced at 440hz. 440 Hz is the frequency of the first A above middle C, referred to as A440. It is used for standard tuning of instruments. Understanding this makes it easy to calculate pitch shift of any track produced at 440 to another frequency. Music Speed Changer can adjust the pitch of music tuned to 440hz to 432hz, 528hz or other frequencies. This article explains how to use Music Speed Changer to shift between frequencies. If you are looking to transpose music, check here for using the app to pitch shift by key for music transposition.

A popular frequency is 432 Hz. It is often used for meditation and is thought to be spiritually valuable. We will use shifting from standard 440 to 432 Hertz to demonstrate down shifting frequency with Music Speed Changer.

The 440 Hz to any frequency pitch shift calculator at the top of this page can do the frequency conversion for you, but on a technical level, the mathematical conversion to the output frequency of 432 Hz is 12 * log2( 432hz / 440hz ) ≈ -0.3176665363342928 semitones, which means a pitch shift down by 0.3176665363342928 semitones. This is easily accomplished with Music Speed Changer by entering -.3177 in the Pitch editor of the app.

440 Hz to 432 Hz Music Player Step by Step

Tap the number over the pitch slider

Tap in the value box to bring up your device keyboard

Enter -.3177 and tap Ok

You can now save the resulting track or use Music Speed Changer as an 440 Hz to 432 Hz music player

440 Hz to 528 Hz Pitch Shift

Another spiritually used frequency is 528 Hz. We will use changing 440 to 528 Hz to show shifting up the frequency.

The equation remains the same with 528hz as the output frequency: 12 * log2( 528hz / 440hz ) ≈ 3.1564128700055254. You can use the 440 Hz pitch shift calculator at the top of this page and enter 528 to do the conversion and copy the result for entering in the app.

To shift from 440 to 528 Hz, enter 3.1564 in the Pitch value field

The display value is rounded, the applied value is 3.1564

That's it! You can convert any or all your 440 Hz tracks or listen to your entire collection at your desired frequency.
